Why are a good majority of the people that respond to YAHOO questions authoritarian type personalities?
Q. 9 traits define this personality type, but I'm only referring to the first four: conventionalism, authoritarian submission, authoritarian aggression, ANTI-Intraception. It seems as if an extreme collective mindset defines many of their answers. They frown upon anything from breaking a warranty, to filing a work grievance, to more subversive activities. In their eyes the LAW is always right and always ironclad.

A. No, not at all accurate. The Russian government enjoys public support as it has become more authoritarian. Hitler enjoyed a great deal of public support, as did Mussolini and Tojo before WW2 and during the beginning of the war.

Did Lenin plan to make Russia more authoritarian from the beginning?
Q. Before the October revolution in 1917, had Lenin planned to create a more authoritarian one-party state. Did he just use the situations such as civil war and the economic crisis to his advantage in order to create this one-party state?
Asked by royale.mint - Thu Sep 10 02:23:32 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. thats a good question. i'm not totally sure, but i do know that during and after the revolution and civil war, Lenin expressed disappointment about the brutality and oppression that occurred in russia. on his deathbed, he wrote denouncing almost all the major party leaders, including Kamenev, Zinoviev, Trotsky and Stalin for their ambition and heartlessness. i know that earlier in his life Lenin saw Marx's word as gospel, and Marx typically advocates a "dictatorship of the proletariat." this isn't dictatorship of a person, but a class. Marx for some reason never gave much consideration to democracy, although Bolsheviks were big into, even going so far as to advocate military officers elected by their squads. of course, that didn't work… [cont.]

Why is it that authoritarian govt lovers like to use guilt by association?
Q. why is it that those who love authoritarian fascist like governmnents that suppress the will of the people and prefer to have an elite few run the country love that particular smear tactic?

A. A smear tactic is a smear tactic, it's hardly restricted to those of a more authoritarian bent. For instance, those trying to bash McCain try to villify him because he accepted endorsements from the like of rev Hagee, while opponents of Barrack Obama point to his 20-year disciple/mentor relationship with rev Wright.

Formulate an argument to justify authoritarian government. Use examples to support your case?

A. The only possible justification for an authoritarian government that i can think of would be speed of action. In times of crisis, disaster, and war, authoritarian governments are able to respond and react much quicker. (Hence the reason we have martial law, and why the president has certain temporary authoritarian powers during a war). The flip side is that the population loses all its rights, and once corruption sets in (which it always does), the whole point of the nation is to meet the desires of a very few individuals. Everyone else is basically a slave.

How do we deal with foreigners who call China an opaque and authoritarian country?
Q. Several foreigners keep blaming China in different internet forums for every problem under the sun. They say that if China is truly a great, unified and prosperous country, then why is it so opaque? Why does it block internet sites? How do I counter this argument of theirs that we are not opaque?

A. How do we DEAL with... thats an authoritarian statement in itself! I live in China and have done for many years, but if anything it seems that the Chinese are getting MORE paranoid and blocking even more web sites! Sites which were readily available before are being blocked as they are scared that some of the images or items there may not show them in a favourable light. Any party or group that does not at least listen to alternative points of view cannot be anything ever other than authoritarian.

Why do communist countries always devolve into authoritarian dictatorships?
Q. There are endless examples of this, the USSR, China, North Korea, Vietnam, Cuba, etc. Why do they so quickly abandoned their idealistic goal of establishing a classless, stateless society based on common ownership of the means of production? A. No it is not, at least in the modern age. It has been a hallmark of modern authoritarian regimes that they are led by people of pathetically bad taste. Whether its the absurd heroic art favored by Hitler, the ludicrous "socialist realism" of the Russian communist regime or crude propaganda of "The East is Red" of the Maoists, the art of the modern dictators is usually garbage. Indeed, radical right and left wing politics attracts second rate artists who find, in the paranoia these philosophies exhibit, an explanation for why their work is unappreciated by modern liberal democratic societies.
